The Gold Coast is known for its world-class sandy beaches, making it the perfect destination to hold 2024 Lifesaving World Championships.
The Championships will be a unique Queensland experience on the Gold Coast and is set to inject more than $19 million into the local community.
The event will attract the world’s best ocean athletes and also puts a spotlight on an iconic Queensland destination with hidden gems ready for competitors and spectators to explore.
The Queensland Government is proud to support the 2024 Lifesaving World Championships and through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Major Event funding.

Welcome to the spiritual home of surf lifesaving – the majestic Gold Coast.
We live and breathe this sport and boast around 55 kilometres of sun swept open beaches, calm water swimming facilities and some of the best community sports assets in the world.
As a council, we have Australia’s largest professional lifeguard service and have celebrated the success of many of our individual life saving athletes and boat crews on the world stage.
The Lifesaving World Championships are the pinnacle of the sport, and I am honoured to see our city host the event in 2024.
You will be in good company – 7000 athletes, 12,000 supporters and the flags of 50 countries flying high from Kurrawa to the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre. 2024 will be a fantastic time to be on the coast so get out there and enjoy everything we have to offer as we welcome you to Australia’s favourite holiday destination.
