We are excited to welcome the Lifesaving World Championships 2024 to the Gold Coast. The Queensland Government – through the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport and Tourism and Events Queensland – is proud to support this biennial sporting event, which returns to Queensland for the first time since 1988.
Across 18 days of competition, up to 7000 elite lifesaving athletes from more than 50 countries will be put through their paces in the ocean, on the sand, and in the pool. They will be joined by more than 12,000 supporters, and we hope all will extend their stay in Queensland – exploring our diverse landscapes and enjoying our outstanding hospitality.
The event’s legacy goes far beyond an estimated $15 million contribution to the Queensland economy. It will inspire future generations of lifesavers, donate equipment to local surf lifesaving clubs, share learnings around emergency management, and shine a spotlight on water safety, to reduce harm and save lives.
Hosting the Championships will also be an opportunity to showcase our incredible venues, pristine beaches, and major events expertise before a global audience, as we prepare for Queensland’s largest-ever event – the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
We thank the International Lifesaving Federation for bringing this event back to the Gold Coast and commend Surf Life Saving Queensland for delivering an action-packed program of competition, demonstrations, and live entertainment.
From the Broadwater Parklands to the world-famous Kurrawa Beach, we hope you enjoy every heart-racing moment of the Lifesaving World Championships 2024.
